December 26th's bad weather conditions caused major electrical shortages in the Monteregie region.
In Saint-Hyacinthe, the Red Cross setup an emergency shelter at the Hyacinthe-Delorme highschool for city residents in case the shortage would last throughout the night. Saint-Hyacinthe firefighters, Sûreté du Québec police officers, Saint-Hyacinthe paramedics, and Red Cross volunteers worked together to help the population.
The City also requested the help of the Monteregie Auxiliary Firefighters Association (APAM) to get a batch of beds for emergency situations.
